Johann Nave (1831-1864)
The Collector's Handy-book of algae, desmids, fungi, lichens, mosses...
London: Gibbings, 1896
Johann Nave was a law student when he met and became close friends with Gregor Mendel, of pea-crossing fame, for most. Though Nave had entered the Civil Service in Austria, he continued to work extensively on algaes, and he frequently spoke to Mendel about his work. He and Mendel were founding members of the Brünn Society for the Study of Natural History. Nave died rather prematurely at the age of 34.
