John Lindley (1799-1865)
Ladies' Botany, or,
A Familiar Introduction to the Study of the Natural System of Botany
London: H. G. Bohn, 1841
John Lindley was an English botanist. He supported what was considered a "natural system" of plant classification, as opposed to the Linnean system, which was considered by some an "artificial system," one that was not reflective of the design of nature. He authored or contributed to several volumes on plant description and identification. Featured here is his Ladies' Botany, which went through several editions.
